The Foundation’s first meeting was held in Seoul on 16 March with representatives from Korea’s seven national winter sports federations, Gangwon Province and host and venue cities, all participating.
A total of 28 international competitions will be staged by the Foundation between February 2016 and April 2017, during which POCOG will review and improve its operational preparations for the 2018 Games. POCOG President Yang-ho Cho was elected as ex officio Chairman of the Board. The Foundation will work closely with each relevant stakeholder to prepare the test events thoroughly and with a view to organising successful Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018.
Yang-ho Cho said during the meeting, “Considering that the first test events will be held next February, there isn’t much time left. Now it is time for all of us to come together and gear up for Games preparations. I feel the burden on my shoulders, but I will use that as positive impetus and make my best effort to make each event a success.”
