PyeongChang holds workshop to exchange on Sochi 2014 experience

This week, the Organising Committee for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games (POCOG) held a workshop inviting those who took part in the IOC Observer Programme at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games to share their experience and learnings from Russia.

More than 250 people, including staff from the PyeongChang Organising Committee, Ministry and city officials, as well as industry experts, gathered to exchange views on a variety of topics and issues ranging from Games operations to accommodation, transport, culture, marketing, technology and accessibility.

Throughout the exchange, the themes of engagement and sustainability stood out as key areas for all stakeholders to consider and integrate into their Games preparation. Participants agreed that engaging the public during the Games and creating lasting legacies in the host country were vital for achieving successful and unique Olympic Winter Games.

PyeongChang President Jin-sun Kim said in his closing remarks: “I hope that this workshop serves as an opportunity for everyone to further advance communication and cooperation. We have one goal, and that is to deliver a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games in PyeongChang.”

IOC Observer Programme

During the course of the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games, participants from current Organising Committees for the Olympic Games and Applicant Cities for the Olympic Games are invited to take part in the IOC Observer Programme. An integral element of the Olympic Games Knowledge Management (OGKM) platform of learning, this programme, which includes workshops, seminars and access to a network of experts with Games experience, aids the transfer of knowledge from one Organising Committee to another. It provides participants with a unique opportunity to live, learn and observe first-hand the daily operational demands of hosting the Olympic Games through a number of visits to various Olympic sites during Games-time.
