The app will be in “Olympic Torch Relay mode” through to 28 January 2018, giving users the chance to follow every step of the Olympic flame’s journey around the Republic of Korea.
As well as offering information on the history of the Olympic torch and the relay, the app will keep users right up to date with the PyeongChang Olympic Torch Relay, serving up photo galleries, all the latest news, route information and a live stream of each leg.
On 29 January, with just 12 days remaining before the start of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, the app will take on a fresh role and become a one-stop shop for all things PyeongChang.
In addition to offering a range of exciting features and promotions, live results, real-time Olympic news and competition schedules, the app will deliver content on the leading athletes and medal contenders, 360° venue images and a tracking feature that lets users keep tabs on their nation’s medal tally.
And for all those who will be at PyeongChang in person, the app will provide a host of useful information on transport and accommodation in the local area, all designed to make the Olympic Winter Games visitor experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible.
The app is backed up by the official Games website (www.pyeongchang2018.com), which has been given a makeover to coincide with the launch. In bringing the Games vividly to life, the new-look website offers all the latest information on the PyeongChang Olympic Torch Relay and will provide an essential go-to resource right the way through to the end of the Paralympic Winter Games in March 2018.
“PyeongChang will be the most technologically advanced Games ever, so it is very important that we have an interesting and easy-to-use app for all Olympic and Paralympic fans, so they can feel connected to the Games wherever they may be,” said Lee Hee-beom, the President of the PyeongChang Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG), commenting on the launch of the app.
“We want to ensure that we reach as many sports fans and mobile users as possible with our new application. We hope they will enjoy following the Olympic torch’s journey as it makes its way to the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza, before kicking into Games mode with us and sharing in the passion and excitement that will play out on snow and ice.”
The app is available from both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
