Background information
The IOC’s Sport and Art contest has existed since 2000 and is held every four years. Artists from all countries which have a recognised NOC can participate by entering their work in either the sculpture or graphic works category. The competition theme in 2012 is “Sport and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect”. The contest highlights the cultural diversity of the Olympic Movement and, as stated by IOC President Jacques Rogge: “the catalysing role that sport, like art, can play in today’s society, as an instrument to improve people’s quality of life and wellbeing”.
