The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is adapting to a changing landscape and streamlining its operations. After consultations with the HR Committee and the Executive Board (EB), the administration – under the leadership of Director General Christophe De Kepper – will change the portfolio of a number of its departments and consolidate the centres of competence within the organisation. The objective is for the IOC administration to adapt its organisational structure to the new activities and priorities under Olympic Agenda 2020.
To accompany these changes, HR policies will be adopted under an overall HR “People Management 2020” programme to foster collaboration, sustainability and flexibility, taking advantage of the move to Olympic House, the new IOC headquarters.
As part of this evolution, a number of new appointments have been announced:
Lana Haddad, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the IOC, will become the Chief Operating Officer (COO), overseeing the Human Resources Department (with Xavier Tissières as Director), the Finance Department (Emre Kurtoglu as Director), the Legal Affairs Department (recruitment ongoing), the Corporate Events & Services Department (Panos Tzivanidis as Director) and the Corporate Security Unit.
As part of the IOC’s digital strategy, a Digital Engagement Department is being created and will be led by Christopher Carroll, who joins the IOC on 16 October 2019. The Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department will be led by Christian Klaue, who will be promoted as Director.
The newly named Corporate and Sustainable Development Department will address gender equality, under the leadership of Marie Sallois.
On 1 October 2019, Angelita Teo started as the new Director of the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage and The Olympic Museum.
The changes are the IOC’s answer to the changing landscape, and strengthen the efficiency and agility of the organisation.
