Founding of a new university
A new university specialising in sports management was created as part of the educational benefits of Russia hosting the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014.
The Russian International Olympic University was established in 2009 and has since provided training on various courses to over 1,000 people per year. These include representatives of local authorities and sports organisations from nearly 80 regions across Russia.
From 2013 to 2019, the Master’s of Sports Administration course – available in English and Russian – has attracted students from 63 different countries. This programme was developed by Russian and international experts in sports management. It was ranked second among all European postgraduate sports courses by the SportBusiness International magazine in 2017 and continued to hold this position for three years in a row.
In cooperation with the Russian Olympians Foundation, the university designs and delivers courses that help former athletes to smoothly transition to a new career, once their sporting careers come to an end. More than 200 former athletes from 67 Russian regions have undertaken the university’s professional training courses, allowing them to consider new career paths.
