Better hospitals and healthcare facilities

Hospitals and healthcare facilities in the centre of the region were upgraded to cater both for the Games and the expected increase in visitors to Savoie Mont Blanc thereafter.

The existing hospital in Albertville was rebuilt and reopened in January 1992. Meanwhile, facilities in Bourg St Maurice and Moutiers, situated closer to the Games venues of La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes and Val d’Isère, were renovated and expanded. The state helped to fund the development programme which was accelerated by the Games.

Some of those facilities have since merged to form the Centre Hospitalier d’Albertville-Moutiers (CHAM), which comprises four sites across the region and is recognised for its excellence in treating sports and skiing injuries. Its Elite Sport Medical Centre has developed a partnership with the French Ski Federation, making its skills and equipment available to the country’s top-level skiers.
