Veronika Wallinger was World Junior Champion in downhill in 1983 and 1984, and competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics, placing 10th in downhill. Downhill was her best event, but she never managed a World Cup race victory, earning one second and five third places in downhill World Cups. Her best seasonal finish was fourth in the 1987-88 downhill World Cup. Wallinger competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics and her bronze medal in downhill is the highlight of her career. As Veronika Stallmaier, she was at Lillehammer in 1994, but her career ended in the 1994-95 season as the result of a serious knee injury. In 1992 she was given a grand decoration of honor for services to the Austrian Republic.
