बायोग्राफी

Decathlete Torsten Voss won the silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics for East Germany. One year earlier he was elected East German Sportsman of the Year, after winning a gold medal at the 1987 World Championships, his best international result. He also competed in the Europeans Championships, retiring after the high hurdles in 1982 and placing fourth in 1986. Voss won East German titles in 1982-83, 1987, and 1990, and indoor championships in heptathlon in 1982 and 1984-87.

After reunification Voss turned to bobsleigh in 1994 and came in eighth with the four-man bob in 1998 at the Nagano Winter Olympics. He won one silver (1997) and two bronze medals (1995-96) at the Worlds, and also two gold (1998, 2001) and four bronze medals (1995, 1997, 1999, 2002) at the Europeans.

By profession Voss trained as a motorcar fitter and later became a decathlon coach at Bayer 05 Uerdingen, where he was also employed as a firefighter. In 2009 he co-founded a sports management agency and since then worked as a sports consultant and agents. In documents found after German reunification his name appeared on lists of doped athletes. His daughter Stefanie was also a multi-athlete, and competed as a long jumper at the 2013 European Youth Indoors.
