Thor-Erik Lundby was born and grew up in the eastern part of Oslo, and he played for his local team Rosenhoff IL his entire ice-hockey career. He was a promising junior player, and was selected for the junior national team in 1956, the same year as his club team won the national junior championships. His first senior country match for Norway came in November 1956 against GDR in Oslo, and he played several matches for Norway in the coming years. In 1964 he was selected for the Norwegian Olympic team (his only international championship tournament), and he scored 3 goals at the Games in Innsbruck.

In 1964 Lundby started working in the distribution section of Norway’s biggest newspaper at that time, Aftenposten, where he worked until his retirement. He was married with four children, and settled with his family in Stovner, a suburb in the north eastern part of the Norwegian capital.
