Mikhail Nestruyev is an all-around pistol shooter, who has achieved great successes in all five ISSF pistol events. He holds the center-fire pistol, 25 metres world record of 594. He also shares the European record in standard pistol, 25 metres with Ragnar Skanåker and Vladas Turla. As a youth, Nestruyev competed in track and field athletics, cross-country skiing and played football, before taking up shooting at the age of 13. He was selected to the Soviet National team in 1989 and won his first international title next year at the 1990 World Championships, where he won gold in the air pistol, team. Besides his 1990 World title, Nestruyev has won four more World titles (1998 in standard pistol, individual; 2002 in both air pistol, individual and team; and 2006 in center-fire pistol, team) and nine silvers at the World Championships. At the Olympic Games, Nestruyev has won gold in free pistol, and silver in air pistol, both in 2004. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics he was also fourth in air pistol. Nestruyev has also won the World Cup five times and has won more than 30 European and 40 Russian titles.
