बायोग्राफी

Katrin Dörre-Heinig was an East German long-distance runner who won an Olympic marathon bronze medal at Seoul, also placing fifth at Barcelona and fourth at Atlanta. At the World Championships she was sixth in 1990, won a bronze medal in 1991 and placed sixth again in 1995. Dörre-Heinig was GDR Champion in 1980 in the 3,000 and after German reunification became German Champion in the half-marathon in 1995-96, and 1999-2000 and in the 1999 marathon. She had an impressing and long list of city marathon titles: 1984, 1996-97 Osaka; 1984-85, 1987, 1991 Tokyo; 1986 Nagoya, 1992-94 London, 1994 Berlin, 1995-97 Frankfurt, and 1998-2000 Hamburg. In 1990 she was third at the New York City marathon. During her career she set a record with 35 times under 2-34. In 1992 she married her coach Wolfgang Heinig, who was a sports teacher and GDR trainer from 1975-90. Their daughter Katharina Heinig also became a long-distance runner who won the Cologne marathon in 2010 at her marathon début.
