A rapid-fire pistol specialist, John McNally competed at five consecutive Olympic Games (1984-2000), with a best finish of fifth in 1992. McNally also competed at seven consecutive Pan American Games (1979-2003), all in rapid-fire shooting, winning 10 medals, with four gold medals, highlighted by his individual gold in 1991. During his career he was a 14-time National Champion and competed at two World Championships. McNally served in the US Army for the early part of his career, competing at the 1984-92 Olympics while in the military with the 3rd Ranger Company. He later served in the Army Marksmanship Unit where he created the Action Pistol Unit. After leaving the Army he worked with Cabot Guns and Penn United Technologies, using his experience to help improve their equipment.
