The highlight of John Heap's rather inconsistent career was his victory in the 100y at the 1932 Southern Championships when he beat such leading sprinters as Ernie Page and George Saunders and equaled the English Native Record of 9.8. He twice reached the final of the 100y at the AAA Championships (1930-34), but finished last on both occasions. At the 1930 British Empire Games, he won a silver medal in the 4×110y relay (with James Cohen, John Hanlon, and Stanley Englehart). He worked for the Midland Bank.
Personal Bests: 100y – 9.8 (1929/32); 220y – 22.2e (1930).
