Field hockey player Herbert Hobein was a member of the first German team to win an Olympic hockey medal, when they beat Belgium 3-0 to win the bronze medal at Amsterdam in 1928. He won five international caps between 1928-36. At club level he played for ETUF Essen. His wife Gisela Hobein died in 2013 a few months after her 102nd birthday.
