Gustav Adolf Fjæstad was a painter and graphic artist, whose wife was the textile artist Mary Fjæstad. Gustav studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm between 1889-92, before he became an assistant of Bruno Liljefor. In 1897 Fjæstad moved to Värmland, where he spent most of his life, and founded the Racken Group, named after the Racken lake near Arvika. Fjæstad is counted among the most important Swedish painters, especially for his winter landscapes. As an avid athlete, Fjæstad competed in speed skating and cycling at national level, winning the “Mälaren Runt” Race in Stockholm in 1892.
