Greg Weiss’ early training was with the Swiss Turners in Union City, New Jersey. He later competed for Penn State University, winning the 1961 NCAA all-around title. He competed for the US at the 1964 Olympics and 1966 World Championships. Weiss won two gold medals at the 1959 Pan American Games in team all-around and the pommeled horse, adding silvers in parallel bars and vault. He won two AAU titles, on pommels in 1963 and the parallel bars in 1966. After graduation from Penn State he joined the Air Force and coached at the US Air Force Academy.
Weiss then entered the business world, running two Gold’s Gyms and Aerobic Centers as an owner/manager. He became a professor of marketing at Prince George’s College for over 30 years. Weiss also took up bodybuilding and won the Mr. Virginia Masters Bodybuilding title. He married Margie Weiss, a US gymnastics team member, and their children were quite successful in sports. Michael Weiss was a figure skater for the US at the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. Genna Weiss was a 6-time national junior diving diving champion, and Geremi Weiss once placed second in the national figure skating junior championships. Greg Weiss was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1991.
