Carlo Pavesi competed at three consecutive Olympics starting in 1952, winning a team épée gold medal each time. The high point of his career was at the 1956 Olympics, where he also won individual épée gold. At the World Championships, Pavesi won six team épée titles (1950, 1953-55, 1957-58), individual épée silvers in 1951 and 1954, team épée silver in 1951, and individual épée bronze in 1955. Pavesi was also the Italian individual épée champion in 1957 and 1958. After his death, an annual memorial tournament in his honor was organized by Circolo della Spada di Vicenza.
