Biographie

Willy WORPITZKY

Willi Worpitzky was a member of the German soccer team at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The starting goalkeeper Albert Weber was severely injured during the first round match against Austria, when Germany was in the lead, 1-0. He was replaced by Worpitzky, a forward, and Germany lost the game 5-1, although Worpitzky sometimes played as a goalkeeper for his club. At those times substitutes were not allowed, so Germany had to finish the game with only 10 players.

Worpitzky played for Britannia Berlin from 1898-1906, then until 1916 for Viktoria 89 Berlin, winning German Championships in 1908 and 1911. From 1916-22 he played for VfB Pankow. He earned nine international caps and scored five goals. After his active career Worpitzky became a football coach in Berlin. By profession, he was a technician.
