Bill Kinnock rowed for New Zealand at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was a two-time medalist at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, winning silvers in the eight in 1950 and in the coxed fours in 1954. He also won a New Zealand title in the eight in 1949 with the same crew that competed at Auckland in 1950. He began rowing with the West End Rowing Club in 1945, and later served the club in various roles. The club boathouse was subsequently named in his honor.
