Thomas J. HALPIN

Thomas Halpin ran the 800 metres at the 1912 Olympics, but he was better known as a 400 runner. Running for the Boston AA, he was AAU 440 champion in 1912 and 1916, finishing second in 1913-14. He won the AAU indoor 600y in 1914-15. In March 1913 Halpin set an indoor world record for 440 yards, finishing in 49.6 at a meet in Buffalo. A top indoor runner, Halpin won the Prout 600 at the Boston Knights of Columbus meet for three consecutive years, retiring the trophy. Halpin served in the US Navy during World War I. He worked as an automobile dealer in Hyde Park, a Boston suburb.
