Sverre Fredheim was born in Norway, but came to the United States in 1927, joining the St. Paul Ski Club a few years later. He became a US citizen in 1935, and placed second at that year’s National Ski Jumping Championship, qualifying him for the 1936 Winter Olympic team. After competing at the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics, Fredheim continued competing, and attempted to make the 1952 Olympic team, finishing ninth in the trials. In 1955 he began competing in Veteran’s meets, and was an active competitor until he turned 60. Fredheim was elected to the US Ski Hall of Fame in 1973.
