Biographie

Roland FREIHOFF

West German rower Roland Freihoff finished fifth, and last, in the final with the coxed eights at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. With his club Kölner Ruderverein von 1877 he won the German titles in 1950 and 1952 and finished second in 1951. In 1953 Freihoff moved to the fours and won the German coxed titles in 1953 and 1954. He also rowed in the coxless fours, coming in second at the Nationals in 1953, before winning the titles in 1954 and 1955. This crew also won the eights title this year, and the bronze medal at the European Championships. In 1956 Freihoff failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Melbourne after finishing third at the Nationals. Freihoff fell in love with a Finnish woman and stayed in Finland, becoming a professor for German philology at the University of Tampere.
