Biographie

After taking a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke at Los Angeles in 1932, Reizo Koike won a bronze medal in the same event at Berlin in 1936. Between these Olympics he studied at Tokyo’s Keio University, and set an unofficial world record for the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.8. He also won a total of eight Japanese Championships. After World War II he became national coach and chairman of the Japan Swimming Federation. In this position, he participated in 1992 at Barcelona. In 1990 Koike received the Olympic Order in Silver, and he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1996.
