Biographie

Hurd is one of the most accomplished American gymnasts of the last decade. Her greatest achievement to date was being crowned 2017 World All-Around Champion, where she saw off incredibly strong competition from Ellie Black and Elena Eremina to take the crown.

Hurd’s main strength is her consistency: brilliant across all four apparatus, on her day she can win on the floor, beam, uneven bars and the vault. It’s no surprise she’s also a constant All-Around threat.

Born in Wuzhou, China, Hurd was adopted by her American mother, Sherri, before her first birthday. Always energetic, she was enrolled in gymnastics at the age of three and excelled immediately. By 2014 – aged 13 – she was impressing in national competitions, and she stepped up to the senior ranks in 2017 in spectacular style, stunning the gymnastics world by immediately becoming World Champion.

Her results since that astonishing debut term have been up and down, and partly slowed by elbow surgery. Viewers of the compelling Olympic Channel documentary All Around, which followed Hurd for a year in the lead-up to the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, saw an athlete who is hard-working, driven, and incredibly talented, while also struggling sometimes with injury and confidence.
