Biographie

Matthew Mackenzie ROBINSON

Mack Robinson was a fine athlete, but he is best known as the brother of Jackie Robinson, the first black to play major league baseball in the 20th century. In 1936, Mack Robinson was attending Pasadena Junior College, but he later enrolled at the University of Oregon and won the NCAA 220 y in 1938. He also won the AAU 200 m that year.

In later life, Robinson became a director of Lemon Grove Park in East Hollywood, Los Angeles. He was also known fighting against street crime in his hometown of Pasadena. Mack was also instrumental in getting a statue of his brother, at the UCLA baseball stadium, Jackie Robinson Stadium.

In 1997, the Pasadena Robinson Memorial was dedicated to both Mack and Jackie Robinson, with memorial statues. Mack Robinson is a member of the University of Oregon Hall of Fame and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. The stadium at Pasadena City College was named in his honor in 2000, and that same year the new post office in Pasadena was named the Matthew “Mack” Robinson Post Office Building.
