Biographie

Lúcio Grottone, of Sicilian descent, started boxing as a teenager. He became light heavyweight champion of São Paulo in 1950, following up with the Brazilian title later that year. He repeated those feats in 1951, and was sent to the first Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, where he won a silver medal. At the 1952 Olympics, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Retiring from the sport in 1954, he focused on working in the fishing business of his wife's family, although he also remained active as a referree and boxing administrator. In July 2016, Grottone participated in the torch relay for the Rio Olympics, carrying the torch in his wheelchair.
