Biographie

Louis Hostin ranks as the best French weightlifter of all-time. He performed particularly well at the Olympics, winning the light-heavyweight title in 1932 and 1936, and the silver medal in 1928. Hostin also won two European titles (1930, 1935) and missed a third one due to three failed lifts in the 1934 championships. World Championships were only held in the last few years of Hostin's career, but he nevertheless collected a silver (1937) and a bronze (1938). Hostin, who worked as a croupier outside sports, was particularly strong in the snatch, and he set seven world records in that discipline, out of a total of 10 recognized world records. In France, Hostin won the national title thirteen years in a row (1927-39).
