Biographie

Larry Black twice ran 20.0 before the München Games, but lost the Olympic title to Valery Borzov of the USSR by two meters. He had a fine collegiate season for North Carolina Central in 1971, winning the NCAA, NAIA, and NCAA-College Division. A versatile all-round sprinter, Black led off the Olympic 4 x 100 meters relay team that posted a new world record and he ran a 440y relay leg in 43.8 at the 1972 Penn Relays. Black was from Miami and returned there, becoming director of that city’s parks and recreation department. Larry Black was a first cousin of fellow Olympian, Gerry Tinker.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.3 (1974); 200 – 20.19 (1972); 440y – 46.6 (1970).
