Biographie

Joseph Rosemeyer, an electrical engineer, founded the cycling club in his hometown Lingen. Although he was not one of the best German cyclists, he was sent to the 1895 Amateur World Championships in Cologne, and he also travelled to Athens for the Olympics. He did not achieve top classifications in either event. Rosemeyer, who later became director of a light bulb factory, was the uncle of Bernd Rosemeyer. A famour racing driver, his nephew won the 1936 European driving championship but was killed in 1938 in an attempt to beat the world speed record.
