Hanni HÖLZNER

German swimmer Hanni Hölzner was the German 100m backstroke champion in 1933 and the following year finished second in the 200m breaststroke at the European Championships. In 1935 she set a new world record in the 100m breaststroke and improved it in 1936 to 1:20.2. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics she finished an unfortunate fourth in the 200m breaststroke.

In 1951 she returned to her hometown Annaberg, where she supported the newly-formed swimming club offering advice and practical help. She also was appointed high school teacher at the College of Physical Culture and Sport in Leipzig. She taught there until the end of the 1960s and created training plans for the swimmers at the training centers.
