Biographie

Switzerland’s Gabriel Reymond specialized in long-distance athletics and, during the first half of the 1950s, focused on the 10 kilometer walk. He came in ninth in the event at the 1952 Summer Olympics, and then improved to sixth at the 1954 European Championships. By mid-decade he was shifting his emphasis to the 20 kilometer walk, and he placed eighth in a field of 14 competitors in this event at the 1958 European Championships. He competed in the same event at the 1960 Summer Olympics, but was disqualified prior to completing the race. He retired from active competition shortly thereafter. In 2013 the town of Renens, where he eventually settled, awarded him their “Coup de Cœur” honor for his contributions to sport.

Personal Bests: 10kmW – 45:05 (1956); 20kmW – 1-33:35 (1959).
