Forbes CARLILE

Forbes Carlile competed at the 1952 Olympics in the modern pentathlon but he was really known for his swimming ability and later as a swim coach. He eventually coached 52 Australian swimmers to the elite international level, who combined for 12 Olympics gold medals and set 31 individual world records. Most notably, Carlile coached Shane Gould, who starred at the 1972 Olympics and once held every world freestyle record between 100 and 1,500 metres. At his death, Carlile was the oldest living Australian Olympian.
