Shot putter Eva Wilms placed seventh at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. She was also nominated for the 1980 Moskva Games, but due to the US-led boycott was not able to compete. At the 1978 European Championships Wilms placed fifth. She competed at the European Cup from 1975-81, winning in 1977. At the European Indoors she won two bronze medals in 1977 and 1978, adding a silver in 1980.

As a pentathlete Wilms set three world records in 1977, one indoors (4,641) and two outdoors (4,765 and 4,823). In West Germany she won eight indoor and ten outdoor titles in pentathlon and shot put, and had several podium placements in the discus throw. After her active career she became national coach for female youth pentathletes. Wilms was elected West German Sportswoman of the Year in 1977. She later married non-Olympian triple jumper Alfred Rapp.
