Biographie

West German Modern pentathlete Elmar Frings finished 23rd in the individual event at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He also placed sixth with the mixed German team. Four years later at Mexico City, then representing West Germany, he placed 17th individually and 13th with the team. In 1971 Frings was West German champion. In 1969 and 1970, he won a bronze medal with the West German team at the Worlds, and he finished sixth individually in 1969.

Frings, trained as a bricklayer, later became a graduate sports teacher and worked at the German Sports High School in Köln (Cologne). He also became a sports administrator with the West German Modern Pentathlon Federation, responsible for sporting activities. In 1972 and 1976, Frings was head coach of the West German pentathletes. In 2002, he lost his battle against cancer at the age of 63 years.
