Biographie

Betty Slade won the 1936 London Girls' Diving Championship, and a few months later added the ASA springboard title in what was her first senior championship appearance. She then went to Berlin to compete in the Olympics and finished ninth in the springboard. She was just 15-years-of-age at the time. Slade retained her ASA title in 1937 and held on to it in 1938 and 1939. She also won the high-board title in 1939. In addition to her domestic titles, Slade won the European springboard title in 1938 and would be the last Briton to win a European gold medal until Brian Phelps 20 years later. Slade turned professional in 1945, and took part in diving shows and exhibitions around Britain. She later moved to America where she died in 2000.
