A finalist in the AAA 880y for four successive years (1936-39), Brian McCabe placed third in 1938. He was also a finalist at the 1936 Olympic Games (9th) and the 1938 British Empire Games (6th) where he won a silver medal in the 4x440y relay (with Frank Handley, Bill Roberts, and the non-Olympian Henry Pack). In 1938 he finished second to AG Baldwin in the 880y at the AAU of Eire Championships, and then represented Ireland in the Triangular International later in the season. After the war he rose rapidly in the advertising profession and became Chairman of Foote, Cone & Belding, one of the world’s largest agencies.
