Biographie

Born in Baranagar, West Bengal, Atanu Das showed immense potential right from the time his father enrolled him in an archery club when he was a child.

With the support of his family and school, which allowed him to take time off for practice, Atanu Das shone in the younger division by winning the individual and team gold medals in the national sub-junior championships in 2007.

To hone his skills, Atanu Das joined the Tata Archery Academy in 2008 and, three years later, the young archer earned his first international medal – a silver at the World Youth Championship men’s team event in Poland.

Atanu continued putting in the hard work and kept collecting medals, especially in the team events. Four medals in the 2013 and 2014 World Cups catapulted him to the elite level. And with every passing year, Atanu Das grew stronger.

It wasn’t long before the Indian archer made his Olympic debut.

With India winning just one quota place in the men’s category for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the Archery Association of India chose to go ahead with trials to select the archer who would represent India at the Summer Games.
