Biographie

Middle- and long-distance runner Arthur Hannemann was eliminated in the heats of the 1,500 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympics and placed 27th four years later in Tokyo. These two competitions were his only international ones. He was a versatile distance runner, running every distance between 1,500 metres and the marathon. Domestically he was East German Champion in 1962 in the 5K and one year later over 25 kms. He was educated as a turner, served as an officer in the Nationale Volksarmee (National Peoples’s Army) of former GDR, and was later a sports instructor.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:43.5 (1963); 10000 – 29:16.6 (1964).
