Biografía

Southern Cal’s Ken Carpenter won the AAU, NCAA, and IC4A discus titles in 1935. The following year he again took the AAU and NCAA, but only placed second to Gordon Dunn at the Final Trials. In Berlin, Dunn led the field after four rounds with Carpenter in third place, also behind Oberweger of Italy In the fifth round, Carpenter moved into the lead and, with both Dunn and Obewerger fouling their last trial, Carpenter took the gold medal. After the Games, Carpenter came within one inch of Willy Schroder’s (GER) world record in an international meet in Prague.
