Biografía

Short track speed skater Tania Vicent has been a staple of the Canadian women’s 3,000m relay team since the mid-1990s and she won a bronze medal in the event with them at the 1995 World Championships. She had been one rank shy of making the 1994 Winter Olympics and was bumped down the national roster during Nathalie Lambert’s brief comeback in the late 1990s, but she qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics in the 500m, 1,000m, and 3,000m relay events. She had no success in the individual competitions, but solidified her niche in the relay by taking home a bronze medal. Over the next four years her biggest international success was a bronze medal in the 3,000m relay at the 2000 World Championships, but she remained active and found success at less prominent international meets. She qualified only for the relay event at the 2002 Winter Olympics and won a second bronze medal, duplicating this feat at that year’s World Championships. In 2003 she won her first World Championship silver, but 2006 proved to be even more successful as she won silver not only at the World Championships, but also the Winter Olympics. She also placed fourth in the 500m event at the Olympics. Since then she has continued to compete regularly, winning a third World Championship silver medal in the 3,000m relay in 2008 and a second Olympic silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
