Biografía

Silke Hörner was one of the best breaststroke and medley swimmers of the 1980s and won gold and silver at the 1986 World Championships in Madrid, and three golds, one silver, and one bronze at the 1985 European Championships in Strasbourg. Her medal collection was completed by the two golds and one silver medal she won at the 1988 Olympic Games. She bettered the 200 breaststroke world record on three occasions and the 100 breaststroke one time.

After the German reunification in 1991, she came under doping suspicion by Brigitte Berendonk and the Military Medical Academy documents in Bad Saarow. According to statements by her teammates, she also took part in the systematic doping of the former GDR, but this was never proven. Silke Hörner later married canoeist Alexander Schuck.
