Alongside Freddy Herbrand and Roger Lespagnard, Régis Ghesquière provided depth to the Belgian field of decathletes in the 1970s. Among that stiff competition, he managed to win the national championship in the decathlon four times\: 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977. His best result internationally was arguably an 11th place at the 1972 Olympics, although he also placed 10th in the 1974 Europeans. He also competed in the 1976 Olympics, but had to forfeit after 7 events due to an injury. After his active career, he remained active as a trainer at various clubs the Belgian province of West-Vlaanderen.
