Biografía

After falling in love at the Mexico City Olympics, West German Jochen Eigenherr later married his teammate Manon Bornholdt. Their daughters Cornelia and Berit also became successful track and field athletes at the national level. He was nominated for the 1969 European Championships but could not start due to the West German boycott. He then won a silver medal in the European Cup over 200 metres and in the 4x100 relay. Domestically he was German Champion at 200 metres in 1969 and 1970, and in the 4x100 relay in 1970. He also started as a long jumper in several competitions.

In Mexico City in 1968 he surprisingly reached the final of the 200 – the first German since 1936 to do so – placing eighth in 20.6, and he also placed sixth with the 4x100 relay team. Eigenherr later ran a dental practice in Bad Segeberg.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.3 (1968); 200 – 20.49 (1968).
