Filipe Toledo was forced to take a backseat when surfing made its grand Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. He was only a reserve on the highly competitive Brazilian team with Italo Ferreira taking gold and close friend Gabriel Medina finishing fourth.
But at Paris 2024, Toledo is set to take centre stage having earned his place in the competition being held at the iconic Teahupo'o on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti.
"The Olympics are currently the pinnacle of our sport, of achievement, of victory. Having an Olympic medal is an achievement I have wanted for many years," the Brazilian told Olympics.com. "Our sport is still young at the Games, but it's already history-making. So having an Olympic gold in our bag is something that could bring great opportunities and an even more promising future."
