Ed Boyce won the AAA triple jump in 1934 and 1938 and his best placing in the AAA long jump was third in 1933. At the 1934 Empire Games he represented Northern Ireland and finished fourth in the triple jump. Selected for the long jump and triple jump at the 1936 Olympics, he failed to qualify for the long jump final and two days later, was forced to pull out of his second event, after pulling a muscle during his first attempt. In the 1938 match vs. Norway he was a last minute substitute in the pole vault after Dick Webster pulled out. Boyce cleared a token 6-feet, which was good enough to qualify Great Britain to a point for his fourth place finish, but, the next day, the point was removed as he did not complete the competition. However he did earn a point for his fourth place in the long jump. Boyce won just one Irish title, the long jump in 1939.
Personal Bests: LJ – 7.33 (24-0½) (1932); TJ – 14.77 (48-5½) (1934).
