Biografía

Dario Mangiarotti competed in two Olympic Games, winning gold in the 1952 team épée, and two silvers, in the 1948 team épée, and the 1952 individual épée. He grew up in a fencing family as his father, Giuseppe, taught him and his brother, Edoardo, who famously won 13 Olympic fencing medals, including six gold. Dario’s niece, and Edoardo’s daughter, Carola, also competed at the Olympics in fencing, in 1976 and 1980. At the 1952 Olympics, Edoardo and Dario finished 1-2 in the individual épée. Dario Mangiarotti won six Italian championships in épée, in 1936, 1938, 1940, 1946, 1951, and 1953. At the World Championships, he won the 1949 individual épée and four gold medals in the team épée, in 1937, 1949-50, and 1953, adding two silvers and two bronze medals at the Worlds.
