German sports shooter Cornelius van Oyen participated in the rapid-fire pistol event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Van Oyen shot a clean round to win the gold medal in the 3-second round, hitting one more target than his team-mate Heinz Hax. In 1937 and 1939 van Oyen was a member of the German rapid-fire pistol team that won the team bronze medal at the World Championships. In 1939, he also won silver in the individual rapid-fire pistol event behind Sweden’s Torsten Ullman.
He was inducted in the Hall of Fame of the German Sports Shooting Association. By profession, van Oyen was an inspector at the Bötzow Brewery, in whose cellars he had set up his training program.
