Biografía

After attending the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and Trinity College, Cambridge, Chris Boardman joined the family firm of Colman’s Mustard in his hometown of Norwick. An appointment to the Board of Directors allowed him ample time for sailing and after captaining Cambridge against Oxford he became a member of many leading clubs including the Royal Yacht Squadron. Boardman was the assistant helmsman aboard the Endeavor in Tommy Sopwith’s challenge for the America’s Cup in 1934 and he took a keen interest in the project for the restoration of the Endeavor in 1986. At the 1936 Olympics he was the helmsman of Lalage that won the 6-metre class in Kiel. After war service as the commander of a corvette on Atlantic convoy duty, he resumed his business interests in Norfolk. His younger brother Humphrey Boardman was also an Olympian, rowing in the double sculls at the 1928 Olympic Games as well as winning two gold medals at the 1930 Empire Games.
