She was more successful at the European Championships, winning a bronze medal with the 4 x 400 m relay in 1969 and a silver in 1971. She also placed second in the 1970 European Cup in the relay and the 400 m. The same year Frese won the silver medal over 400 m at the European Indoors and the gold medal two years later, in the 4 x 2 laps relay. In 1973 she placed fourth over 400 m. Domestically she won nine titles. In 1969 she was part of the world record 4 x 400 m relay together with Antje Gleichfeld, Inge Bödding and non-Olympian Christa Czekay (3:33.9 at Athina).

From 1975-77 Frese played football for SSG Bergisch Gladbach, winning a German title in 1977. She then moved to SC 07 Bad Neuenahr and VfL Euskirchen, where she worked as a coach.
